Tana River, Kenya
Maynard Art Show: Tana is the longest river in Kenya. Upriver, hydroelectric dams provide much of the electric power for Kenya. Here, it is more sedate, flowing in a well-contained river valley, a verdant ribbon in the middle of the desert. The small puffs of cumulus clouds highlight the aridness – with year-round temperatures in the 90s F, and scarcely a drop of rain. Some of the earliest evidence of human tool-making has been found in this region, going back over a million years. Follow this path forward and now we have the ISS orbiting the Earth, looking back through time and space.
