Aurora over Canada - Dec 7, 2014
On Dec 7, 2014, the crew of Expedition 42 mounted a camera in the Cupola window, and set the timer. Over the next 10 minutes, the camera took one photo every second. Looking out a left side window of the Cupola, during the local night, they could see a dramatic aurara ring over Canada.
The animation gives a compelling view of the dancing aurora, formed as charged particles interacting with the upper atmosphere.
Astronauts love to watch this colorful dance of light.
